Suggestions and random friend invites

As you get more friends on Facebook it will begin making friend, groups, and fan suggestions. These are suggestions made by Facebook and not your friends. Unless these are something you're interested in they can be ignored.

This same rule can be applied to people who may want to be your friend that you don't know. If you don't know someone don't accept his or her friend invite. Once someone becomes your friend they'll have access to any information your friends are capable of seeing.

Tag your Facebook friends in your photos

Always make sure to tag any of your Facebook friends that are in pictures you upload. However, never tag someone who is not in the picture. When someone is tagged in a photo that picture is automatically added to that persons profile and is a great way to share pictures with all friends.

What Is The Definition Of Malware?

Malware is a virus type of software that can enter your system and cause it to malfunction a bit or totally destroy it. It can erase all of your information in a snap and it will be impossible to recover it. Everything on your computer will be gone, pictures, and resumes, taxes, anything and everything. Worst of all it can lead to identity theft because whoever sent it will have access to all your pertinent and personal information.

The majority of the malware out there since 2003 enter a unsuspecting persons computer steal their private data and use that data for credit cards, bank accounts, loans, Etc. Other malware enters your computer and may send out spam emails to tons of people including prohibited sites and porn.

Malware contains several different yet evil programs including worms, spyware, viruses and Trojan horses. No matter which program is used the intent is the same to ruin your computer. As our internet usage grows and high speed access usage grows a malware virus can slowly break down your system causing just a little more damage each day until the damage is so bad there is no hope for fixing it and the scary thing is they can come from anywhere.

What you can do to ensure that your system does not get infected is follow these simple steps:
If you think you are infected stop using the internet for anything personal. Do not shop online or do banking online, etc.

Once you are sure you have the security software installed run a scan on your system. If any problems pop up let the program fix it this will erase any malware bugs you may have accidentally picked up.

When you are positive that your system is clean and protected keep an eye out for weird happenings that may indicate you have again somehow been infected. The best cure for malware is to avoid it all together. The developers of the malware will continue to create vicious programs and we will continue to fight them. They certainly aren't going away but if you are careful and watchful they won't be staying long either. There you go...a quick definition of malware!

Uninstall From a Dual Boot

In Windows Xp, you can install two operating systems on the same hard disk of one computer.

Whether you have two copies of Windows Xp, or two different operating systems, then you end up with dual boot machine when you restart your Windows Xp computer.

Dual boot means, the system will give you a choice of two operating system. For example, if you have two Windows Xp copies A ans B, the prompt will offer you to choose A or B to boot from.

Also, dual boot machine can be used to have Windows Xp, and Linux O.S. installed on the same computer.

In the case where you have two windows Xp copies on the same hard disk, you will experience a slow performance in your system.

If you need to delete one Windows Xp copies, and leave only one, here is how you do it:

When you restart your system, and you get a choice of two operating systems, you should choose the one you want to keep installed on your machine.

Once the startup process is done, and your computer is ready to accept tasks to perform certain functions, you click on the "My Computer" icon and locate the hard disks, removable storage devices, and more.

In the hard disk box you should see two drive icons, like "C", "D". If the copy you installed later need to be cancelled, it must reside on the "D" part of the hard disk.

This is because the "C" is where you initial copy of the Windows Xp resides, and it is the one you want to keep installed as the only copy on your computer.

The way you should get rid of the "D" copy is to format the "D" part of the hard disk. just right click it, and choose format. This will delete the Windows Xp copy you don't need.

Types Of Operating Systems

Almost all computers including handheld computers, desktop computers, supercomputers and video game consoles use an operating system of some type. If you have installed Windows Vista or Windows XP on your system then I am quite sure most of you will have no idea about Operating Systems. This is not your fault because Microsoft Windows operating systems covers almost 90% of the PC market. Operating System (OS) is an interface between the hardware and the user and is responsible for the management and coordination of activities and sharing of resources of the computer. Following are different types of Operating Systems:

Microsoft Windows

Recently Microsoft has released Windows 7 as their latest Windows operating system. Microsoft Windows is a family of proprietary operating systems, meaning that you can not modify or distribute it. When you use Windows Operating system you have some limitations at your side. Microsoft Windows holds a large amount of the worldwide desktop computing market share. It is also used on servers, supporting applications such as web servers and database servers. In recent years, Microsoft has spent significant marketing, research & development money to demonstrate that Windows is capable of running any enterprise application. The most widely used version of the Microsoft Windows family is Windows XP, released on October 25, 2001.

UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems

UNIX is a computer operating system originally developed in 1969 by a group of AT&T employees at Bell Labs. Today the term UNIX is used to describe any operating system that conforms to UNIX standards; meaning that the core operating system operates the same as the original UNIX operating system.

The term "Unix-like" is commonly used to refer to a large set of operating systems which resemble the original UNIX. Unix-like systems run on a wide variety of machine architectures. They are used heavily as servers in business, as well as workstations in academic and engineering environments. Free UNIX variants, such as GNU Linux and BSD, are popular in this area.

Linux OS

Linux is a generic term referring to Unix-like computer Operating Systems based on the Linux kernel. Its development is one of the most prominent examples of free and open source software collaboration; typically all the source code can be used, freely modified, and redistributed, both commercially and non-commercially, by anyone under the terms of the GNU GPL and other free software licenses.

Linux is predominantly known for its use in servers, although can be installed on a wide variety of computer hardware, ranging from embedded devices , mobile phones and even some watches to supercomputers. Linux distributions, installed on both desktop and laptop computers, have become increasingly commonplace in recent years. In short, Linux has become an operating system that can be run almost anywhere by almost anyone.

Mac OS

Mac OS is of graphical user interface-based operating systems developed by Apple Inc. for their Macintosh line of computer systems. The Mac OS was first introduced in 1984 with the original Macintosh, usually referred as the System software. Early versions of Mac OS were compatible only with Motorola based Macintoshes but Mac OS X, has superseded the "Classic" Mac OS and is compatible with both PowerPC and Intel processors.

Online OS

Besides of above mentioned Operating Systems there are some online Operating Systems that are browser dependant meaning that when you close the web browser operating systems disappears. Glide OS, OOS and webX are a few examples of online Operating systems.

How To Solve Registry Issues

Registry Issues are very common these days as we are trying to keep as much software/hardware as possible in our PCs. There can be many reasons for these kinds of issues. But before going to that, we need to understand what a registry is.

Windows registry is a database automatically maintained to store settings and options for Windows OSs. It has settings for everything (both software and hardware) the computer has in it. Windows need these files to operate successfully. If any of these files are deleted or damaged due to some reason, then it badly hampers the working of the system. It may happen that a damaged registry can prevent the system from booting successfully. A corrupted registry causes the registry issues. And for this very reason these files are hidden so that the user could never do any harm to them, not even accidentally.

Preventing and fixing Registry Issues are must. If you do not do this, then you may face various problems like a degraded operating speed, sudden crash etc. And trying to fix a problem after it happened is more difficult as compared to preventing it from appearing. Irrespective of the kind of your use of the computer and how long you have used it, there might be many reasons why the registry gets corrupted. The size of the registry increases with the files and settings for programs that are no more in use, some spyware’s settings that got itself installed in your system, presence of unused but undeleted drivers, installing or uninstalling of any hardware, files left by a software which you deleted which was not uninstalled successfully, or many such reasons. With so many addition and deletion the registry may become corrupted and with that you will face many problems as defined earlier.

There are mainly 2 ways to fix and prevent these registry issues. You can either do it manually or can use any registry cleaner software tool. Doing it manually means, you need to go to the folder and then delete, update, manipulate, or download & add files to the registry. This demands an extra caution, because if you corrupt any file of delete the file by mistake, then you may face bigger and worse registry issues with the system.

Using a registry cleaner is a wiser way as per my suggestion. It is just a software which removes the unused files and data from the registry without you worrying much. There are also some cleaners which come with “back-up and restore” capability to undo any changes made by the cleaner if you find out that it hampers the functionality of any program in the computer, or if anything goes wrong while the cleaning process.

Other than these 2 solutions, there is only one solution left for this issue. In the worst case, you need to re-install Windows in the system. To make your system’s performance enhanced and stable, the registry should be kept clean, so that the registry issues are dealt well with.

6 Tips for Protecting Your PC from Virus Attacks

Computer is always at the risk of getting infected with virus or malicious applications. We should get more security measures for protecting our PC from virus attacks effectively:

#1 Do not download any programs from insecure websites.

It will be tough for some users because they can not judge which is the secure website and which is the malicious one. To get worse, there are so many free download websites on line. We can not make sure whether they have been protected or not. So the better way for doing this is to process the virus scan before downloading from these sites.

#2 Use common sense to detect virus.

It is useful to use common sense to detect virus on some occasions. Do not open any unknown email or attachment. For the suspicious emails, you should delete them immediately. For some attachments that with the .jpg suffix, you can not fall into their trap and click them. Once you click, you actually are clicking a malicious virus and your PC must be infected.

#3 Be careful about the fraud virus/tools.

Oftentimes you may get an email from a friend says that there is a dangerous and terrible virus and you had better send this email to your other friends, in case their PC get infected with it. It is no doubt that this email provides you fraud virus/tool which aims to fool you into buying some programs for solving this problem. This junk email does not only waste your time and money, but also bring grave harm to your computer.

#4 Get an excellent security program for protecting your PC.

I believe most computer users will do this. Here I am reminding you to run the completely virus scan especially when you just install your security tool for the first time. It may take some time, but the thorough virus scan will help you a lot in maintaining your computer security.

#5 Get a Fire Wall on your computer.

If you use your machine a lot and always connect to internet, then you need a Fire Wall to block the visits from strangers or hackers. If your system can not be protected effectively, your address, credit card number and other private information may be stolen online.

#6 Install an effective and real security tool on your PC.

Do not fall into the trap of some fraud tools which seem like real security tools. The more important thing is to keep your real guard program up-to-date. With the latest version and the strongest anti-virus protection, you can be at ease with your PC security.

What Is The Difference Between Broadband Phone And Internet Phone

To those who may not be familiar, the term Broadband is used to compare frequency bandwidth. These broadband frequencies are capable of transmitting large quantum of data at a higher speed than narrow band frequencies. Besides, broadband enables multiple voice, video or data channels simultaneously.

The Internet may be defined as a system of interconnected computer network worldwide that enables interchange data by packet switching using the standardized Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP). To put it briefly, Internet consists of millions of private and public, academic, business, and government networks ranging from local to global technologies.

Needless to say, the Internet holds a host of information resources and information services including electronic mail, online chat, file transfer and file sharing, online gaming, and the inter-linked hypertext documents and other resources of the World Wide Web (WWW).

Broadband Internet access, often referred to as broadband, is high-speed Internet access as compared to the standard dial-up access using a modem. It may be noted that dial-up modems are only capable of maximum bitrate of 56 kbit/s (kilobits per second) and require the full use of a telephone line. But broadband technologies provide double this speed without interfering with the telephone use.

Transfer speeds for Broadband are reported to be 50 times faster than dial-up modems, enabling users to download mp3s (compressed digital audio files) or films without having to wait indefinitely. Broadband connections are offered on a variety of platforms, including DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), cable, satellite, and wireless.

It is common knowledge that dial-up Internet uses a phone line to access the Internet. Your computer uses its modem to make a standard call to an Internet Service Provider, which then connects you to the WWW. The broadband, on the other hand, is provided in a number of ways - over a phone line, by cable, wirelessly, or by satellite, as is needed.

An Internet is a global network connecting millions of computers. More than 100 countries are linked into exchanges of data, news and information. It may not be incorrect to state that the Internet is today a public, cooperative, and self-sustaining facility accessible to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. One of the noteworthy aspects about the Internet is that nobody actually owns it. It is a global collection of networks of varying sizes - big, medium and small. These networks connect together in multiple ways.

Dial-up Internet connectivity is the widely used type of access promoted by Internet Service Providers (ISP). The connection is economical but slow. This connection t enables users to connect via a local serve that exhibits strength of a standard 56 Kilobits per second modem. Of course, broadband technology enables greater information-carrying capacity and quicker Internet access.

The fundamental difference between dialup and broadband connections, it may be concluded, is the manner in which the connection is made from PC to the Internet. A dialup service connects to the Internet through a telephone line with a maximum speed of 56kbps. Broadband, on the other hand, denotes a connection that has capacity to transmit large amount of data at high speed. Presently a connection having download speeds of 256kbps or more is classified as broadband.

How To Stop The Physical Memory Dump Error - Stop The Blue Screen Physical Memory Dump

The physical memory dump error is a big problem which affects even the most advanced of computer systems. Although it's quite a rare error, it's one of the most devastating, stopping what you're doing and restarting your computer - making you lose all your unsaved data. This is a big problem, but there is actually a very easy way to fix it.

You see, there are two reasons why the physical memory dump happens. The first is pretty simple and is to do with the "hardware" of your PC. The hardware of your computer are the bits-and-pieces that make it work, and if any of these pieces are not compatible with your system, it will cause the physical memory dump. So, if you've recently added any hardware to your PC (even USB drives), then take that out and see if it does it again.

The other reason why the physical memory dump error occurs is because of your system, and more specifically, the 'registry'. The registry is a big database which operates in the background of Windows, storing all sorts of settings and information about your PC. The problem with the registry is that since it has so many important files inside, it's constantly got 100's of files open every time you use your PC. And because there are so many files open at once, Windows is constantly getting confused, leading it to save many of these files in the wrong way.

The registry causes the physical memory dump error because of these files which are saved in the wrong way. You see, these files become corrupt when they are saved wrongly, making them incredibly difficult for your computer to read. This means that the next time Windows wants to open these files, it has to spend longer and longer trying to decipher them. However, if it can't read the files at all, it has no choice but to stop everything it's doing and restart your PC. This is why the physical memory dump error appears so randomly - because when a registry file is so corrupt that it can't be read, your computer needs to refresh itself immediately.

This latter reason for causing the physical memory dump is actually extremely common and the likelihood is that your PC is suffering from it, if you're seeing this error. Luckily, it's also incredibly easy to fix - you just need to use a software tool called a "registry cleaner" to go through the registry and fix all the problems that are in there. Depending on whether your registry cleaner is good or not, you can actually stop all the physical memory dump errors on your computer by just downloading, installing and scanning your PC with a good registry cleaner.

Three Major Differences of Win 7 and Windows Xp

The worry for any IT department when upgrading to a new version of application/software is how it will be accepted by users. Most PC users would rather gouge their eyes out than upgrade to a new version. After all, they are comfortable with the current system. They know its bugs, the tweaks needed and the workarounds.

And now, you want them to learn something new? Arrrggghhhh . . . While this may never be a welcome change, it is one that is necessary and can be made smoother.

By alerting users to the major differences between the new and old versions, you can make the transition smoother. If your firm is upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7, here are some major differences you can alert your employees to. It should make the transition less painful for all concerned.

I. New Taskbar: It’s common for task bars to be located at the bottom right of a user’s screen. And, usually they have “pop up balloons” that alert you to one thing or another (check this, upgrade this, security breach here, etc.). In Windows 7, you have total control over the task bar.

You can change the settings to allow only those icons you want to appear and send out notifications.

II. Faster: One of the things that Microsoft promised with Windows 7 is a faster operating system. According to most users, it delivers. This is because it has fewer startup processes that it has to go through. This means less RAM used, which means faster loading and shutdown times.

III. Easier Peripheral Integration: This will come as a welcome relief to many users who have plug-and-play devices (eg, digital cameras). For, every time you use a plug-and-play device, you will be treated to a new experience with Windows 7.

One of the major differences is that almost all of the devices are supported with the required drivers. And, when they’re not, Windows 7 will locate it on the internet for you, right down to the device’s manufacturer’s website.

While upgrades are never seamless, making end users aware of the benefits they will receive helps to ease the transition. And for many, Windows 7 offers a plethora of them.

Spyware Blockers And Why They Are Needed

Any time one connects to the Internet and surfs with a computer unprotected by the appropriate security measures, it is an open invitation to a plethora of spyware programs to infect a computer.

Spyware is becoming increasingly prevalent and more insidious with each passing day. Every minute spent online is a chance for a system registry to become infected. Surfing the Internet without a good spyware program installed is akin to washing dishes without soap – infections may ensue.

What is Spyware?

Spyware is programming that invisibly infiltrates a computer and monitors the computer user's activity. It silently collects information all without the computer user's knowledge. Spyware can infect private and public computers, even company computers are not immune to being infected.

Beyond collecting information, spyware can make changes to the system registry, redirect users to an unwanted URL, and even download more insidious software. Quite often the changes made to the registry will cause issues with the network connection and will even go so far as to shut down the connection completely.

There are several programs out on the Internet that are notorious as spyware software. Surprisingly, among those to be found, AOL Instant Messenger is considered to be a spyware carrier. The program contains another program called WildTangent. WildTangent itself is infected with spyware. Occasionally, even a touted anti-virus program is nothing more than a cleverly disguised spyware program – Security Tool, Antivirus Vista 2010, and XP Internet Security 2010 are perfect examples of this.

What Does a Spyware Blocker do?

There are spyware removal programs and then there are spyware blocking programs. A spyware removal program simply scans and removes existing spyware from one's computer system. They do nothing with regard to future issues other than having the need to be run on a regular basis to remove items that have already infected a computer. The damage from the spyware is already done at this point and what a spyware removal program will do is only clean up the aftermath and mess left behind.

Spyware blocking programs, on the other hand, not only remove existing infections but also actively block out any attempts to install spyware onto a system. They run as a resident program in the background just like anti-virus programs and will alert and block any incoming threat. Spyware blocking programs are the guards at the gate.

There are many spyware blocking programs available on the Internet. One of the more popular programs is Spyware Doctor. This anti-spyware software is also integrated with an anti-virus program, effectively doubling one's protection. SpywareBlaster is another effective anti-spyware program that prevents not only spyware downloads but adware, browser hijackers and dialers as well. Consumer Search has a great listing of anti-spyware programs shown in comparison with each other.

Arm Your Computer

Internet surfing is quite a lot of fun and can garner a great deal of information. Unfortunately, it also can garner a great deal of spyware and unwanted computer infections. Arming one's computer with an anti-spyware program can ensure the fun and information gathering can continue without a hitch.

_________________________________________________________________

Then you can hide the autorun.inf folder(apply only for this folder) inside your USB
so that it will be invisible.

This will prevent to overwrite and delete autorun.inf in your folder. The con folder created inside autorun.inf folder is 100% harmless. It will not be deleted because this is a MS-DOS reserve word. Only flash drive formatting can delete the autorun.inf folder inside in your flash drive. For more info about reserved words for Microsoft Windows, just search it in

Computer mouse tips

Using the mouse in combination with the keys on your keyboard can give you several different advantages and help improve your overall productivity on the computer. Below are just a few examples.

Almost all text editors

Many text editors or programs that allow you to edit text support the ability to quickly highlight all or portions of text by using the Shift key and the mouse. For example, move the cursor to the beginning of the text you wish to highlight, hold down the shift key, and click at the end of the text you wish to highlight. If supported and done properly this will highlight all text in-between the points you clicked.

Microsoft Word

In Microsoft Word holding down the ALT key on your keyboard while clicking and dragging your mouse and you will be able to drag a box and highlight only portions of text and not the whole line.

Windows Explorer and many other file

Microsoft Windows Explorer and other file managing programs allow users to select multiple files by holding down the CTRL key and clicking each file or folder they wish to select or hold down the shift key and selecting multiple files at once.

Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and other browsers

Users who visit a website with tables and wish to only select one row of that table can hold down the CTRL key and click and drag on the text in the row they wish to copy.

Mozilla Firefox users

Mozilla Firefox users can also hold down the CTRL key and individually click on each cell they wish to copy.

NTLDR is Missing

Issue:

NTLDR is Missing.

Related errors:

Below are the full error messages that may be seen when the computer is booting.

NTLDR is Missing
Press any key to restart

Boot: Couldn't find NTLDR
Please insert another disk

NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl Alt Del to Restart
Causes:

1. Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
2. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
3. Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
4. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
5. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32.
6. New hard disk drive being added.
7. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.
8. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
9. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable.
10. Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS.

Solutions:

Computer is booting from a non-bootable source

Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD-ROM. First verify that no floppy diskette is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette.

If you are attempting to boot from a floppy diskette and are receiving this error message it is likely that the diskette does not have all the necessary files and/or is corrupt.

If you are attempting to install Windows XP or Windows 2000 and are receiving this error message as the computer is booting verify that your computer BIOS has the proper boot settings. For example, if you are attempting to run the install from the CD-ROM make sure the CD-ROM is the first boot device, and not the hard disk drive.

Second, when the computer is booting you should receive the below prompt.

Press any key to boot from the CD

Important: When you see this message press any key such as the Enter key immediately, otherwise it will try booting from the hard drive and likely get the NTLDR error again.

Note: If you are not receiving the above message and your BIOS boot options are set properly it's also possible that your CD-ROM drive may not be booting from the CD-ROM properly. Verify the jumpers are set properly on the CD-ROM drive.

Additional information: This error has also been known to occur when a memory stick is in a card reader and the computer is attempting to boot from it. If you have any type of card reader or flash reader make sure that no memory stick is inside the computer.
